Diopside (CaMgSi2O6) is a common pyroxene mineral in ultramafic and mafic rocks, including basalt, but relatively little work has been done to understand its carbon mineralization kinetics using hydrated supercritical CO2, which induces the formation of reactive nanoscale interfacial water films.

This green gemstone is also believed to be able to enhance the intellect and encourage the desire to learn. According to metaphysical beliefs, chrome diopside is used to help mitigate aggression or stubbornness while strengthening love and commitment. Green diopside is said to be connected to the heart chakra.
